Things To Do in Victoria

The Butchart Gardens

Located in the hilly farmland and forests on the outskirts of Victoria about 30-45 minutes from the cruise ship terminal, this 104 year old National Historic Site of Canada provides a floral display of epic proportions. Five main areas (the Sunken, Japanese, Rose, Italian and Mediterranean gardens) offer a profusion of blossoms, blooms and colourful vegetation. It is noted not only for its colours, but also for its immaculately kept gardens. The Gardens, started so many years ago by Jennie Butchart, still remain owned by members of the family.

You will find more than 2 kilometres (1 ¼ miles) of easy walking paths to choose from, so do wear sensible shoes.

Almost all areas are accessible to those in wheelchairs. The Gardens does have a number of non-electric wheelchairs for use. For those visiting in the evenings we suggest you wear several light layers to allow you to easily adjust for a variety of temperatures.

For most cruise ship visits The Gardens lights up at night using light and shadow to create evening artistry. While there's entertainment every summer night, Saturday nights offer a special additional treat – a stunning pyrotechnical display.

Finish off your visit by stopping in at their large and tasteful Seed & Gift Store where they can ship your purchases worldwide.

And while the men are shopping the ladies may wish to enjoy one of their great restaurants.
